A new liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) dealership has opened shop in Kigali. Safe Gas has also introduced enhanced and safer packaging material for LPG, which prevent explosions in case of fire accidents, according to Liban Mugabo, the chief executive officer. 

"We have made a breakthrough in LPG cylinder design by using advanced technology to create a transparent composite cylinder, which controls gas outflow and does not explode in case of a fire accident,” he explained.

He noted that conventional gas cylinders do not have additional security mechanisms, which puts users at risk.

"We encourage Rwandans to take advantage of the new enhanced product to protect their homes and businesses,” he said.

Most gas cylinders on the market today are made of steel. Mugabo said the cylinder has a transparent feature that allows users to monitor the gas level through the tank wall and ensure timely refill.

The cylinders come in four sizes – 5kg, 7.5kg, 10kg and 14kg.

Safe Gas joins five other players in the LPG market, which include SP, Kobil, Merez, Lake Gas, and Sulfo.

The product was introduced onto the market yesterday at the ongoing annual Rwanda International Trade Fair that started yesterday at Gikondo.

Mugabo said, so far, they were working with Engen service stations to distribute the gas.
