APR 57-29 University of Rwanda

APR and Ubumwe will meet in the women’s playoffs final following their wins in the semi-finals played on Sunday at Cercle Sportif de Kigali.

Ubumwe defeated The Hoops 44-42 in a tightly contested game with Alice Muhongerwa scoring 19 points to inspire her team to the finals. Ubumwe had also defeated The Hoops 57-43 in the first playoff game on Saturday.

"It was a tight game because we were missing four players due to injuries picked in the first game but I thank my players because they fought hard,” said Ubumwe head coach Ernest Ntaganda.

He added that they are going to intensify their training ahead of the final because APR is a better team though they have all it takes to out-compete them.

"We shall have only three training sessions this week as we prepare for the final playoffs because many players are students and cannot be available everyday but we are positive we can win the title,” said Ntaganda.

Meanwhile, APR also comfortably defeated University of Rwanda (UR) 57-29 on Sunday evening at the same ground to book a ticket in the final playoffs. Chantal Akumuntu scored 13 points for APR who had defeated UR 74-25 in the first game.

"We played with vision in both games and actually we deserved to win. We have now turned all our attention to the finals and we shall start daily training on Tuesday (today),” said APR head coach Charles Mbazumutima.

The final playoffs are expected to take place this weekend at Amahoro indoor stadium but the actual day is yet to be confirmed.
