Police handball club overwhelmed hosts Groupe Scolaire Rambura 53-15 to move three points clear on top of the table standings ahead of their archrivals APR.

Police’s Jean Paul Muhawenayo scored 16 goals to guide his team to victory.

"We are just two games away from winning this year’s league and will not stop the pace until we clinch the trophy,” said Police head coach Antoine Ntibanganya.

On Sunday, seventh placed Gicumbi (16 points on the table) defeated eighth placed Nyakabanda 37-24 at Kimisagara Ground.

Gicumbi’s Francois Xavier Ngarambe scored a game high12 goals as his side grabbed victory. Nyakabanda has now lost three consecutive games in the second round of the league having lost to both Police and APR earlier.

The top four teams include Police (36 points), APR (33 points), ES Kigoma (28 points) and Groupe Scolaire St Aloys (25 points) respectively while the bottom four are Nyakabanda and College of Arts and Social Sciences who are tied on 14 points while College of Education has 12 points and Groupe Scolaire Rambura nine points respectively.

Alexis Nshimiyimana (ES Kigoma) leads the scorers’ list with 112 goals while Jean Paul Muhawenayo of Police has scored 76 goals so far. Police’s Gilbert Mutuyimana has scored 74 goals.
