Do or die for Rwanda sitting volleyball against Egypt

Rwanda men’s sitting volleyball team will face African giants Egypt this afternoon in their third game at the ongoing Paravolley Africa sitting volleyball championship at Amahoro Indoor Stadium.

Rwanda needs to win this game to maintain their hopes of qualifying for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games in Brazil.

According to head coach Eric Gakwaya, the team is hoping to win against Egypt for the first time, "We want to write history. We know it will be tough but we are ready to give everything for this game.”

"We are facing a big team in Africa but we are ready for the challenge ahead. We know it will be hard to beat them but that is our ambition this year. We have never beaten them before but we will give everything to win the game,”the former National University of Rwanda right attacker added.

"We still have a long way to go, but we have started well which is good for us. We are happy with Thursday’s result (defeating Algeria).”

Rwanda women and men sitting volleyball national teams started well after defeating Burundi and Algeria 3-0 respectively in their opening match of the ongoing Paravolley Africa sitting championship on Wednesday.

"We are aware of the challenge ahead and we know Egypt are strong. However, we have been preparing well and we are going to try our best with all our efforts in this game. We want to qualify for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games,” Gakwaya noted.

Tomorrow, Rwanda will face Kenya before playing Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)on Monday morning.

In the women’s category, Rwanda will face Kenya today while tomorrow they will face Egypt before playing DRC on Monday.

The Paravolley Africa sitting volleyball championship started on Wednesday at Amahoro Indoor Stadium in Remera, Kigali and will end on July 28.
