APR handball club defeated Nyakabanda 51-15 in the national league on Sunday at Kimisagara youth center to pull level with leaders Police on 30 points albeit the later having played a game less.

Viateur Nzamankwa scored the game high 14 goals for the army team, who are seeking to dethrone Police as champions. Earlier on Saturday, ES Kigoma beat ES Urumuri 32-20 to cement third place with 28 points.

"We have got the much needed win and now our focus is to try and win all our remaining matches between now and end of the season,” said the APR coach Anaclet Bagirishya.

Reigning champions Police will play their first second round match on Sunday against Nyakabanda at Kimisagara.
