Rwandan league champions APR have turned their attention to the upcoming CECAFA Kagame Cup scheduled for July 18-August 2 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The army side that recently settled for third in the just concluded Peace Cup, used the domestic competition as part of preparations for the regional competition that has attracted 13 teams from eight countries in the CFFF region.

"We always want to win. Our goal is to win the CECAFA Kagame Cup title. It will be a tough tournament but we are going to prepare for the challenge ahead,” explained Dusan Suljagic, APR FC head coach.

The army side commences training this morning without the out-of-contract Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza ‘Migi’ who has drawn interest from Tanzanian side Azam.

APR were finalists at last year’s edition in Kigali losing to Sudan’s El Merreikh 1-0 in the final at Amahoro Stadium and had earlier lost to Burundi’s Vital’O 2-1 at the 2013 edition in Sudan.

Captain Ismael Nshutiyamagara said, "It is very possible to win the CECAFA Kagame Cup. We have come very close on two occasions in the past two years, but that is not good enough. We are going to work very hard in the coming two weeks and make sure we are ready for the challenge ahead.”

APR has won the regional title thrice in 2004, 2007 and 2010 when the tournament was hosted in Rwanda on all three occasions.
