APR handball club have set themselves a target of winning this year’s Liberation Day tournament scheduled for today at Kimisagara Youth Center and UR- College of Education (UR- CoE) courts respectively.

After claiming this year’s Genocide Memorial Tournament last month, the military side are looking to bag a second title, according to head coach Anaclet Bagirishya.

"We are optimistic on beating anyone for the title; we want to win as many trophies as possible this season. All my players are fit and ready to deliver,” the former Police H-ball club coach told Sunday Times yesterday.

He further noted that he is aware they will face stiff challenge from defending champions Police as well as youthful ES Kigoma win but they are determined to make two trophies in as many months.

The one-day annual competition has attracted nine teams; six for men and three women teams. The men’s teams have been draw into two pools with group A including holders Police, UR- CoE and Gicumbi while pool B comprises APR, Kigoma and RDF.

The women’s category contenders include; Appega Gahengeri, UR- CoE and ES Mukingi. Men’s pool A and women’s competition will be hosted at UR- CoE courts while pool B in men’s category and finals will be held at Kimisagara courts.

The female category participants will play against each other on a round-robin basis and the best will be crowned champions while top of pool A and Pool B in men’s battle will meet in the final.
