Rwanda Energy Group (REG) women basketball club will Thursday, November 2, take on Burundian Gladiators in quarterfinal playoffs of the FIBA Zone V women’s championship which is underway at Lycée de Kigali Gymnasium.

Gladiators finished in third place in Group A, hence drawing Group B second-placed REG.

Beating JKL Lady Dolphins 66-65 in their last group game on Wednesday night didn’t prevent the Rwandan representatives from losing the top spot to Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) who won all their games including a 72-42 stunning upset over REG on Tuesday, October 31 to lead the charge.

APR seeks to maintain unbeaten run ahead of Equity Bank tie

Meanwhile, APR also finished in second place in Group A after losing one game in three games which was against Equity Bank(56-63). They will face Uganda’s JKL Lady Dolphins in the last eight playoffs.

The eight teams that qualified for the FIBA Zone V women’s championship playoffs are: REG and APR (Rwanda), KPA and Equity Bank (Kenya), Vijana Queens (Tanzania), Gladiators (Burundi), Nile Legends (South Sudan) and JKL Lady Dolphins of Uganda.

JKT were eliminated from the competition after failing to win a single game, hence finishing fifth in Group A.

Four quarterfinalists will advance to the semifinals where the winners will face off in the final to battle for the trophy. The losers in the last tour will play a third-place game.
