Ethiopia has confirmed participation in the third edition of the Taekwondo Ambassador’s Cup scheduled for August 21-22 at Amahoro indoor stadium.

The annual Ambassador’s Cup tournament is organised by Rwanda Taekwondo Federation in partnership with the South Korean Embassy in Rwanda since 2013.

Apart from Ethiopia, the two-day competition will also attract guest participants from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Burundi, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. Hosts Rwanda dominated the first two editions.

Normally, the regional competition takes place in October but it has been fixed in August this year to prepare the All Africa Games for Rwandan athletes, according to Rwanda Taekwondo Federation’s secretary general Placide Bagabo.

He said, "We scheduled the tournament for August so that it can help our fighters to prepare before the All Africa Games which will be held two weeks later. The target is winning medals and qualifying for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.”

Preparing to make their maiden appearance at the continental quadrennial multi-sport events, Rwanda’s taekwondo team will be represented by a 12-member team—eight men and four women at the 11th All Africa Games from September 4-19 in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo.
