Rwanda Volleyball Federation (FRVB) is set to hold a special training camp for the national women’s team in August, according to the federation president Gustave Nkurunziza.

Gustave Nkurunziza

Nkurunziza told this paper that the team will start preparations for next year’s EAVB Women’s African Nations Championships in August.

Rwanda has failed to participate in the annual tournament for the last four years but FRVB is planning to organize a special camp so that the team can compete in next year’s tournament in both the junior and senior categories.

"We have a special camp for the women and by next year, we shall have a strong team which will compete in international competitions. We need to prepare the team before playing international competitions,” Nkurunziza said.

Meanwhile, African powerhouse Kenya claimed their ninth historic African title after beating North African giants Algeria 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-20) in the final of the Women’s African Nations Championship held at Kasarani Indoor Arena in Nairobi, Kenya last Saturday.

Both finalists Kenya and Algeria secured the two slots available to represent Africa at the 2015 FIVB World Cup scheduled for August 22 to September 6 in Japan.

Kenya made it nine titles and their third in a row to add to their studded history after winning in 1991, 1993, 1995, 1997, 2005, 2007, 2011 and 2013, while Algeria maintained their single victory in 2009.

Cameroon finished third to win bronze following their thrilling victory over Senegal 3-2 (25-19, 23-25, 14-25, 25-13 and 17-15) in an epic tiebreaker.
