Les Lionnes rout Bugesera to finish third in women's league

Les Lionnes beat Bugesera 3-0 in their final league match of the season at ES Mutunda grounds on Saturday to finish in third place in the national women football league.

Huye-based Les Lionnes got their win through goals from Odette Mukamana, Caritas Niyodusaba and Pauline Nyirantahompagaze.

Speaking to Times Sport on Sunday, Les Lionnes head coach Innocent Harerimana said he is happy his team finished in the top four for the first time and added they will come back stronger next season aiming to challenging for the league title.

"We had a good season; finishing third is quite an achievement for us, congratulations to my girls for good football they played this year. We are going to take stock of this season and then plan for next season,” Harerimana explained.

Elsewhere, Kamonyi defeated Nyagatare 3-0 to cement second place finish.

AS Kigali retained the crown for the record-extending seventh time and an unbeaten record for the third season running. Grace Nyinawumuntu’s team finished with 50 points, 8 ahead of Kamonyi, while Les Lionnes and Inyemera completed top four, with 39 and 38 points, respectively.
