Beware of fraudsters on social media

Editor, Allow me to react to the story, “Minister Kabarebe speaks out on Facebook impersonator” (The New Times, June 10). This is a clear sign that in Rwanda, just like anywhere else in the world, we must keep in mind that some people would try to use their knowledge in ICT tools, such as social media, for malicious reasons.

Allow me to react to the story, "Minister Kabarebe speaks out on Facebook impersonator” (The New Times, June 10). This is a clear sign that in Rwanda, just like anywhere else in the world, we must keep in mind that some people would try to use their knowledge in ICT tools, such as social media, for malicious reasons.

Therefore, while we continue to focus on ICT development in Rwanda, we must also put an emphasis on educating and making people aware that they should be careful, in particular when it comes to people asking them for money through social media.
