Mall and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are part of the private sector and are looked at as some of the ways of boosting value addition mainly for agricultural products destined for export and create off farm jobs.
BDF, an independent company that was created in collaboration with the Government of Rwanda and the Development Bank of Rwanda (BRD) is one of the implementing institutions of the National SME Development Policy and has been mandated to implement the Access to Finance objective.
One of the products and services BDF offers is setting up Community Processing Centers in collaboration with MINICOM aimed at adding value to local produce in different communities.
In a bid to increase local production and address challenges the Small and Medium Enterprises-(SME cluster) is facing, the government has set up community processing Centers-CPCs. "The purpose of the processing centers is to increase SME contribution to the national economic development in line with government programs,” says Diana Kareba Rutagemwa, Investment and Portfolio Manager at BDF.
