The Development Bank of Rwanda (BRD), yesterday, handed over a cheque of Rwf 42.4 million to Genocide survivors in Kirehe District, for the renovation of their houses and payment for health insurance premiums.

Peter Rwambala, the BRD Director of Corporate Affairs, said the money would be used to buy iron sheets for 99 houses belonging to the vulnerable survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in the district. Also, part of the money will pay health insurance premiums for 100 survivors for the next three years.

"We decided to contribute to the survivors following our visit to Kirehe last month,” explained Rwambala.

He said the donation was part of BRD’s corporate social responsibility and a way of creating a socio-economic impact in the lives of the survivors.

Berthe Mujawamariya, a Member of Parliament who hails from the district noted that the support would go a long way in rebuilding the lives of the survivors, given the hardship they face every day.
