Midfielder Rodriguez Murengezi has signed a new two-year contract with AS Kigali, which will keep him at the City of Kigali-sponsored club until 2017, according to head coach Eric Nshimiyimana.

‘’Murengezi’s current contract was due to run out in July, so it’s important that we tie him down to a longer contract because he is a key player for this club,” Nshimiyimana confirmed on Friday.

The skilled midfielder, Murengezi, joined AS Kigali from Musanze FC two years ago and helped the club to win the Peace Cup in 2013 and finished in second place in the National League this season.

Nshimiyimana added, "We want to keep this team together for as long as possible which is why we have decided to offer Murengezi a new deal. We’re also in talks with other players whose contracts are ending this season.”

The 28-year-old Murengezi scored only 2 league goals this season.
