Roll ball: Rwanda shift focus to World Championships

After the National Roll ball team failed to win the East Africa Roll Ball Championships last weekend, the team has now turned focus on early preparations for the third edition of Roll Ball World Cup, which will be held in Pune, India from December 14-20.

After the National Roll ball team failed to win the East Africa Roll Ball Championships last weekend, the team has now turned focus on early preparations for the third edition of Roll Ball World Cup, which will be held in Pune, India from December 14-20.

Rwanda finished in second position behind Kenya at the East Africa Championships in men and women hosted in Kigali, and now the head coach Gerard Ssegawa Cisco says that the team has started training ahead of the World Championships.

"We want to start early preparations because we need to be at top level at the time of the World Championships,” he said.

In the regional championships, women category, Rwanda beat Uganda 2-3 before Rwanda lost to Kenya 8-2 and Kenya also beat Uganda 6-3.

For the men’s category, Kenya trashed Rwanda 8-3, and Uganda 4-0 respectively, while Rwanda won 10-5 against Uganda.

Pedro Manishimwe finished as top scorer in the two days tourney with 7 goals; the event took place at Maison de Jeunes Kimisagara. The last time Rwanda participated in the World Championships was back in 2013 where the team finished in seventh position at the Moi International Sports Center in Nairobi, Kenya.

Roll ball is a sport where skating is combined with skills of basketball and handball played on a tarmac, concrete or wooden court measuring 40 by 20m using a basketball ball and is contested by six players per team.
