United Stars FC pulled off a shock 1-0 win against La Jeunesse on match-day 21 in Pool A of the national second division league on Wednesday at Kabagari grounds.

The Muhanga-based side claimed the unexpected victory through goalkeeper Leonidas Mwemere in the 15th minute.

Consequently, the defeat saw new entrants Nyagatare FC leapfrog La Jeunesse at the top of the table after the Eastern Province side won 1-0 over Heroes FC.

Nyagatare bagged all three points through a free-kick goal from midfielder Jerome Murwanashyaka in the 66th minute.

Nyagatare now top pool A table with 40 points, one ahead of La Jeunesse, while United Stars and Aspor are in third and fourth, with 38 and 37 points, respectively.

In pool B, the big guns didn’t disappoint as table leaders Bugesera thrashed Golden Generation 5-0, second-placed Sorwathe beat Akagera 2-0, while third-placed routed Intare 4-1. Fourth-placed Rwamagana were held 1-all draw by Kimisagara-based Esperance FC.

In pool B, Noah Nsaziyinka’s Bugesera lead with 53 points, Sorwathe trail leaders by four points in the second position while Muhanga and Rwamagana come in third and fourth, with 40 and 36 points respectively.
