Kiyovu Sports wallop out of form Etoile de l'Est

Kiyovu Sports returned to winning ways with an emphatic 6-1 win over Etoile de l'Est in match day 9 of the 2023/24 Rwanda Premier League season.

The game at Kigali Pele Stadium on Friday, October 27 produced four goals in the first half as Kiyovu Sports dominated from start to end.

The visitors shot ahead in the fourth minute through Amza Rwema as they forced Kiyovu to chase the game.

The Green Baggies who were playing without skipper Olivier Niyonzima who is injured got their act together and started dictating the pace of the game; Fred Muhozi being the star man with his explosive attacking runs.

Nizeyimana Djuma equalized for Kiyovu in the 17th minute with a fine finish before Cherif Bayo shot them ahead with the second in the 24th minute.

Kiyovu took total control as they subjected Etoile de l'Est defenders to intense pressure. Striker Yves Mugunga made it 3-1 in the 34th minute. The first half ended with Kiyovu firmly in the driving seat.

After recess, substitute Mosengwo Lansele made it 4-1 for Kiyovu in the 66th minute. Richard Kilongozi banged in the fifth in the 70th minute to make it 5-1.

Etoile de l'Est decided to bring all their players into their own half as they sought to defend in order not to concede another goal. But they could not contain the Kiyovu attack. Yves Mugunga made it 6-1 with a superb goal in the 75th minute as he recorded a brace in the game.

The last 15 minutes of the game saw Kiyovu deciding to play to the gallery as they had already annihilated Etoile de l'Est.

The referee blew his whistle for the end of proceedings with Kiyovu leading 6-1.

Elsewhere, Marines FC came from behind to beat Gorilla FC 3-2 in a crunch afternoon kickoff at Kigali Pele Stadium with Nzau Ginora scoring a 94th minute winner for the visitor's.
