ESPOIR Basketball Club beat rivals APR 68-48 on Saturday at Amahoro stadium to retain the national basketball championship title for a fourth consecutive time since 2012.

The Nyamirambo-based giants through forward Pascal Karekezi Rurangirwa who was in good form and shooting guard Lionnel Hakizimana overpowered the youthful inexperienced APR team.

Jean Bahufite’s Espoir retain the title with three games to play against IPRC- Kigali, Cercle Sportif de Kigali (CSK) and Rusizi BBC respectively.

Espoir Captain Aristide Mugabe praised his teammates and coaching staff for another milestone achieved but challenged his team mates to win their remaining matches.

"It is a joyous moment for Espoir, winning the league title four times back-to-back is not something that happens overnight, it takes a brave, courageous and resilient heart to achieve. We still have three league games to play, we should not be complacent now,” the 27-year old point guard said.

Elsewhere, Struggling University of Rwanda- College of Education (UR- CoE) claimed their first victory of the season since February, winning 56-50 over 30- Plus.
