The Ministry of Health this morning launched a campaign against malnutrition, which is targeting children between six and 59 months according to information from the ministry.

The campaign, which will include screenings, was launched at Gahengeri Health Centre in Rwamagana District and will last until May 29.

"This activity will be done from 14th to 29th May 2015 by health centre staff in selected sites in villages in collaboration with Community Health Workers and partners in the health sector,” reads a statement from the ministry.

The nutritional screening organized by the Ministry of Health each year is a front-line process to identify children who are already malnourished or at risk of becoming so; in order to plan concrete and rapid interventions.

In 2013, government launched the 1000-day campaign against malnutrition that led to initiatives like the kitchen garden and milk-feeding programme as means to scale up nutrition among children under the age of five.
