The secondary bond market was active again yesterday after a fortnight of inactivity as 25 million bonds of a three-year government bond issued last year were traded at Rwf 102.5 each, yesterday’s market report indicates.

This translated into an estimated turnover of Rwf 2.6 billion from the bond market, which is largely inactive during other trading days in spite of government’s effort to promote the capital markets.

The government, through the National Bank of Rwanda started a quarterly Treasury bond issuance programme last year, which would see it raise funds for infrastructure development while at the same time encourage people to invest in the bonds.
