At least 225Rwandans and friends yesterday gathered in Cape Town, South Africa to commemorate 21 years after Genocide.

The friends were from South Africa, East Africa and the Jewish community.

The ceremony was officiated by Vincent Karega, Rwanda’s High Commissioner to South Africa, and Richard Freedman, the director of the Holocaust Museum in Cape Town.

Poem, intore film and speeches on the history of the Genocide, the reconciliation process and today’s progress in Rwanda were the centre of focus.

Commemorative activities in Southern Africa have become critical moments for the Rwandan Diaspora to bond, to remember who they are and why it is important to all strive to rebuild a better Rwanda, according to Karega.

"It is also an opportunity to disseminate Rwanda history and its renewed spirit of never again,” the envoy said in a brief statement.
