Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has expelled Academic Girls Football Club from the national women’s football championship.

The football association decided to permanently suspend Muhanga-based Academic Girls FC for the rest of 2014/2015 season after the youthful side failed to turn up for Saturday’s league tie against Les Lioness.

According to article 13 of FERWAFA rules regulating football, a side that misses three league matches without giving a convincing reason is suspended. This was the fourth match Academic girls had failed to honor since the start of women’s football league in February.

According to Felicité Rwemalika, the Head of Women football department in FERWAFA, Academic girls football club had been warned before and expelling them was the last resort.

Meanwhile the women football league resumes tomorrow with third-placed Kamonyi hosting champions AS Kigali at Remera-Rukoma playgrounds.
