Reference is made to the article, "Gen Dallaire calls for new approach to peacekeeping” (The New Times, April 28).

At the height of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, General Roméo Dallaire and the 400 mainly Ghanaian soldiers under his command showed the strength of their commitment to peace and security by protecting fellow human beings.

Today, his wise words—below—resonate strongly not just with Rwandans but anyone who has the interest and honesty.

"There are movements out to deny the Genocide that happened in Rwanda, for reasons only known to themselves. I faced it when I was in the Canadian senate where some of my colleagues always came to me with conspiracies that allude to double Genocide….…..the Jewish community took it upon themselves to ensure Holocaust denial was criminalised worldwide.”

These are words that leave everyone with no doubt that the man values humanity, a cardinal principle that should characterize any force commander of a peacekeeping mission, politics from New York (the UN headquarters) notwithstanding.
