A Travaux d’Interêts Générales (TIG) coordinator, Jean-Claude Rafiki Munyarugabo, has been detained at Kabuga Police Station since Wednesday.

Munyarugabo is accused of employing prisoners who are serving TIG at his home.

The Executive Secretary of TIG, Everest Bizimana confirmed Munyarugabo’s arrest. Bizimana said Munyarugabo got prisoners from Rusororo Camp in Kiramuruzi and took them to his home in Kabuga to construct his house.

That breaches laws governing TIG programme, Bizimana added.

Police Spokesman Inspector Marcel Higiro confirmed Munyurangabo’s arrest.

He said police is still investigating and the case will be handed over to prosecution soon.

Munyurangabo was the Coordinator of Rusororo Solidarity Camp in Gatsibo District, Eastern Province.

Recently, former TIG executive secretary Emmanuel Twagirumukiza was granted court bail on corruption charges and other related cases.

TIG is a community service programme which facilitates convicts to serve part of their sentences while outside prisons.
