Simba SC put up a spirited performance against Al Ahly in the second leg of the CAF African Football League quarterfinals held at the Cairo International Stadium on Tuesday but their 1-1 draw was not enough for them to qualify for the semifinals as they were eliminated from the competition on away goal rule.

The quarter final game was keenly contested as Simba out up arguably their best performance ever against a Northern African side away from home.

With the pair having settled for a 2-2 draw in Dar es Salaam in the game that marked the official opening ceremony of the competition on Friday, October 20, Al Ahly went through to the semifinals on superior away goal rule.

In another quarterfinal game of the day, Mamelodi Sundowns held Petro de Luanda to a 0-0 draw at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium despite playing the majority of the encounter with a man down. Defender Mothobi Mvala was sent off in the second minute following a cynical tackle but the Angolans failed to utilize the numerical advantage.

The South African champions won the first leg 2-0 and thus qualified to the last four on a 2-0 aggregate.

The African Football League is CAF&039;s newest football competition that brings together eight African top clubs. "Visit Rwanda" is one of its main partners of the franchise.
