Police yesterday unveiled a new complex that will serve as headquarters for the Kigali Metropolitan Police, Gasabo District police unit and Remera Police post.

The building, located behind Amahoro National Stadium in Remera, was completed at a cost of Rwf1.6 billion, according to Police spokesman CSP Celestin Twahirwa.

The construction works started in 2010.

The building has 25 rooms offering different services, including offices, a conference hall, lobby and holding cells for detainees.

"It is a safe building that is fitted with CCTVs to ensure security. It will certainly boost the services we offer, especially for those in detention, because we have been facing issues of sanitation in our cells,” he said.

The Minister for Internal security, Musa Fazil Harerimana who officially commisioned the opening of the complex, said it was built in accordance with international standards.

It is part of government efforts to improve  infrastructure, he added.

"It will reduce time spent by people running after services at different places as has been the case.”

Kigali Metropolitan Police has been operating from Muhima, along the City-Nyabugogo road at a building that is commonly known as Kwa Kabuga.
