Rwandan international central defender Salomon Nirisalike over the weekend helped his side Saint-Trond earn promotion to the Belgian Jupiler League.

Saint Trond won the Belgian second division title after beating ASV Geel 4-1 on Saturday to extend the lead at the top of the table with 76 points, six points ahead of second-placed Lommel United who they will face on Saturday in the final game of the season.

Nirisalike, who has been summoned to the national U-23 team for this weekend’s CAF U-23 Championship qualifier against Somalia, follows in the footsteps of former Amavubi skipper Desire Mbonabucya who also played for Saint-Trod

Saint-Trond’s record this season reads, 23 wins, 7 draws and 3 defeats.

"I am happy to help my team to get promoted, I have been in this country for the last three years and this year has been my best in terms of results, and I am happy with that,” stated the former SEC Academy star.

The 22-year-old joined Saint Trond from Royal Antwerp on a one-year contract and nor reports coming from Belgium indicate that the newly promoted side are keen to offer him a new longer deal at the end of the season.

The big centre back signed for Antwerp for three years in a reported Euros 80,000 from Sec Academy. He has been a regular for the junior wasps and he has played for Amavubi senior team eight times.
