The President was received by the Speaker of the Council of the Nation, Abdelkader Bensalah, among other senior government officials.
President Kagame began his visit with a tour of the Algerian National Liberation Museum.
While at the Museum, Kagame laid a wreath at the Maqam Ehachid monument (Martyr’s Memorial) in honor of the martyrs of Algeria’s War of Independence.
The Liberation Museum tells the story of Algeria’s liberation struggle as well as the country’s rich history.
A statement from Village Urugwiro said the state visit is an opportunity to strengthen the long standing Rwanda-Algeria relationship.
The two countries are looking to build stronger partnerships in both the public and private sectors.
Algeria opened its embassy in Rwanda in December, last year, and appointed Djafri Abdelaziz, the minister counsellor in the ministry of foreign affairs, as its head.
On his second day, Kagame is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
The President will also meet Algerian PM Abdelmalek Sellal, and end the visit with a tour of the Tipaza Museum and archaeological park.
