AS Kigali overcame a stubborn Etincelles 3-2 in a tightly contested game in Rubavu yesterday to go top of the National Football League table, three points above champions APR.

Amini Muzerwa opened the score sheet for Eric Nshimiyimana’s side before Isaie Songa netted twice in the second half to seal a much needed victory.

Songa, who has scored 11 times for AS Kigali said, "We really needed to win this game and take the lead above APR. This gives us a good shot at winning the league title and that is our objective right now.”

In other games, Police defeated Isonga 2-1 at Ferwafa ground while Espoir shocked SC Kiyovu 2-1 at Mumena stadium.

Substitutes Innocent Twagirimana and Vianney scored for the law enforcers to hand bottom-placed Isonga their 13th loss of the season sending them deeper into relegation trouble.

Police FC Coach Andre Cassa Mbungo praised the young goal scorers and said that, "I am extremely happy for our young players who scored crucial goals for us to win. This win seals our position in third as we look to finishing in second place.”

Meanwhile, Espoir’s victory against SC Kiyovu sent them into the top half of the table in sixth position with 29 points and above the latter on goal difference.
