Editor,

Refer to the Editorial, "New maternity leave law will enhance women empowerment” (The New Times, March 25).

I am totally short of words regarding what is happening now. A mother who chooses to stay at home for the last six weeks of her maternal leave forfeits 80% of her salary! To me, there is nothing to celebrate but the government to compensate all the mothers who have been affected by the current law.

This was a right denied.

As a friend of Rwanda, I find this as having been an abuse. However, I must thank the Government for coming to the rescue of mothers with the introduction of the newly proposed law.
