The maxi skirt continues to be a major trend after making its comeback a few seasons back.

This glamorous outfit works all year round and is best worn in lightweight fabrics and bright colours.

The maxi skirt is versatile; that’s what is so great about it; one can strike both a casual and formal look. Maxi skirts can be round or curve-hugging and they are a timeless classic regardless of one’s size; anyone can pull it off.

Maureen Ainembabazi, a designer from the House of Shepherd in Kimironko, says that a maxi skirt is a great item and there are a thousand ways one can look great in it, depending on the occasion.

"A maxi-skirt with a big band fares well with a cropped top and to make a statement, you can hold up your hair with a band. When worn with a tank top, accessorise with a bold necklace, and to highlight your waist, wear a belt. Go for a long sleeved top if you’re attending a meeting or something that calls for decency,” Ainembabazi says.

She adds that one can wear a tight maxi-skirt and a sweater, and for a fashionable look, add a small belt and long earrings.

These skirts should have a place in every woman’s wardrobe; and here are more ways on how to rock a maxi skirt:

•Select the top with care; the fit of the skirt determines the top. Round skirts tend to look best with a top that fits well, layered ones work well with taller figures.

•Consider colour, one can choose to wear a monochrome or a floral print as long as the top doesn’t clash and mix the patterns.

•Tucking the top looks great for slimmer figures but for the plus size ones, wearing a top that sits on the skirt is an amazing option.

•Wear the right shoes; avoid shoes that are completely closed in, sandals and ballerinas are appropriate and if you’re short, wear heels for added height to cope with the skirt length.

•Accessories can always help flatter your outfit. Hats, bags and nice jewelry can be fun, for example, a large bag can look great with a slim maxi and chunky necklaces look great with a well fitted top.
