"Kidum and I agreed on many things in our contract. I bought his ticket, booked him in a hotel and paid him 50% of the agreed amount of money. We were supposed to be together for two days, 27th and 28th,” said the furious Frankie.
"Little did I know that he and his manager – one Ahmed – had other plans. Kidum was whisked away to K-Club where he had a show! As if that wasn’t bad enough, he had booked for another performance at Kaizen the day after,” he added.
Police summoned Frankie Joe after he alerted Kaizen management that Kidum shouldn’t perform there without Joe’s consent as they still had a binding agreement. "I went to Nyarugenge Police where an officer on duty told us to resolve the issue amicably. ‘You guys are friends, you even did a song together… why can’t you find a solution amongst yourselves?’ the cop advised us.”
A bitter Frankie Joe adds that not only did Kidum intentionally sabotage his show by organising the two shows at K-Club and Kaizen, but he also "gathered journalists to tarnish my name!”
Tickets for Frankie’s show were at Rwf10,000, and Rwf20,000 for VIP. "Now, if you decide to stage a performance at Rwf5,000, that’s sabotage with a bold and capital S.” He added that the two were supposed to go to Papyrus for a show but Kidum appeared on Saturday morning.
No bad blood
Despite all this, Frankie says that he holds no grudge against Kidum. "I respect him as a celebrated icon and if he wants to remain my friend, I have no problem,” he says.
On the morning of March 30, Frankie took to Facebook and wrote, "Whatever you said about me I will take it as a man. To me you will always be my mentor and the most talented. I love and respect you that much. God bless you.”
To which Kidum replied, "We are still brothers, money comes and goes. It is very little money compared to our brotherhood. I will still support you despite what happened. We did a good song together brother money can’t tear (sic) us apart.”
The two collaborated on a single titled, Kipendo roho.
Efforts to talk to Kidum were futile as his known phone was switched off by press time.
