Maternity leave fund is a big win for women

Editor,

This is good news and a big win for the women in Rwanda. For a long time, people have been disappointed by the fact that women only had 6 weeks of full salary pay for maternity leave. At least now, we feel that we have people looking out for women and children rights in the government.

In addition to this, we must hear the parliament deliberation on this matter—it is interesting to know what the thoughts are for a parliament that has the highest number of women MPs in the world. That was totally paradoxical.

Actually, I previously was shocked that they passed a law that supported only one month and a half of salaried maternity leave.
