Development priorities should focus on the youth

Editor,

Refer to the First Daughter Ange Kagame’s article, "Never touch anything with half of your heart, Ange Kagame tells youth” (The New Times, March 25).

Rwanda is one country that has tried to promote pro-African economic policies for its citizens. A few days ago, I presented a paper on why 90% of locally registered companies in Uganda belonging to mostly the youth haven’t hit the breakeven point whereas the foreign ones continue to invade the economy, take most contracts and progress.

As Africans, our national bodies should be more involved in promoting and building capacities of initiatives and platforms created by their own citizens, fortunately who mostly are the youth; and that’s only when the statements of Rwanda’s First Daughter will become a reality.

Our duty and responsibility as the youth is just that of proposing such reforms and presenting them to our policy makers and leaders.
