Sebahire to captain athletics team at World Championships

Two-time reigning national men’s 10,000m champion, Eric Sebahire will captain Team Rwanda at the 41st IAAF World Cross Country Championships slated for March 28 in Guiyang, China.

Two-time reigning national men’s 10,000m champion, Eric Sebahire will captain Team Rwanda at the 41st IAAF World Cross Country Championships slated for March 28 in Guiyang, China.

The five-man team coached by Emmanuel Murenzi will depart for China on Tuesday, four days before the start of the competition. The team started residential training six weeks ago at La Bonne Esperance, Kicukiro.

"Captaining the team is really a great honor; I and my colleagues will do everything possible to represent the country well in the competition. We have had high level preparations for the last six weeks and I’m convinced we will put on an impressive showing in China,” Sebahire told Sunday Sport on Friday.

The 31-year old Sebahire will be making his fifth consecutive appearance at the World Championships since his debut in 2009.

The APR Athletics Club runner holds a personal best of 28’02’ in 10,000m and 1’02’ in half-marathon.

The team also includes; Felicien Muhitira, Syliaque Ndayikengurukiye, Pontien Ntawuyirushintege and Jean Marie Vianney Uwajeneza.
