Respect our Police Force

Editor,

There is need for all Rwandans to shun violence in all its forms. Such behaviour as violently resisting legitimate arrest is primitive and should not be identified with our society.

We are lucky to have respectful police officers known for their high levels of discipline and professionalism; let us not take advantage of them but rather make good use of their admirable character.

Does anyone have an idea what it feels like to meet a Rwandan police officer on a peacekeeping mission out there? In some parts of the world, many would rather encounter criminals rather than their police, but here we are blessed with a friendly and responsible police force.

It’s a shame that we tend to undermine and sometimes attempt to fight or even disarm them.
