The all-black outfit

In this heat, the colour might not be the best option, but for a night out, black is one hell of a colour. It is bold and unique, and you can’t go wrong with it; anyone can pull off the all-black look if they accessorise well.

In this heat, the colour might not be the best option, but for a night out, black is one hell of a colour. It is bold and unique, and you can’t go wrong with it; anyone can pull off the all-black look if they accessorise well.

Clothes have a language of their own and a well accessorised all- black outfit spells elegance. It’s slimming so anyone with size issues can wear it with comfort and confidence. Black is safe, bold and basic.

Vianney Kalisa, a boutique vendor in Kimironko, says that a lady dressed in black looks elegant, especially if she knows how to accessorise her outfit.

"One needs to balance the outfit; light or dark skinned girls look great in black clothes. For the dark skinned, they look better in a particular shade of black, something that isn’t too thick,” Kalisa says.

Jacky A. Murerwa says she can’t do without the little black dress in her closet, dark skinny jeans or at least a couple of black purses.

"I’m in love with black. It flatters my skin complexion and when I wear it, I feel like I’m in the limelight. Black is great for parties. I have to wear black at least twice a week,” Murerwa says.

How to pull it off

• If you’re not sure how to bring black into your wardrobe, start with one item, like a t-shirt, or pair of jeans.

•Fitting matters a lot when putting together a black-on-black outfit.

•Brighten up the outfit with accessories. Bold, colourful jewelry should be the statement piece of your outfit. Coloured stilettos can be amazing with tight skinny jeans; or you could try a bright coloured belt.

•Have fun. If it’s an office outfit, try some bright coloured lipstick, like hot pink; deep red or even funky purple.
