Impala Titans defeated Victory Cricket Club by four wickets to register their first win at the ongoing VR Naidu Twenty20 Cup on Sunday afternoon at the Kicukiro cricket oval.

Victory batted first and posted a meager100 runs in the allocated overs with Jerome Uwimana posting 25 runs while Hussein Byamungu managed 14 runs.

Impala Titans’ Emmanuel Byiringiro knocked 36 runs off 35 balls scoring five boundaries in the process and picked one wicket to clinch the man-of-the-match award as his side posted 104 runs in 16.5 overs.

His teammate Arsene Muganineza displayed a remarkable performance with 31 runs off 29 balls to make up for their Group B loss to Kigali Warriors in their opening game a fortnight ago.

In the other game of the day, Challengers Cricket Club recovered from last weekend’s loss to Telugu Royals by defeating Right Guards by five wickets.

Challengers’ right-arm spinner Mehbub Shaikh picked three wickets conceding 25 runs in the four overs he bowled as his side limited Right Guards to 96 runs for a loss of six wickets in 20 overs. Right Guards’ Emmanuel Mugabe posted 32 runs off 31 balls.

Challengers who expected an easy run chase achieved victory with Evode Mutuyimana scoring a team high 31 runs as they secured 98 runs in 16 overs.

In the women’s category, Charity mauled Kigali Angels by five wickets as the former chased down 109 runs for a loss of seven wickets, posting 110 runs for a loss of five wickets in 16 overs.

Antoinette Uwimbabazi and Sarah Uwera scored 40 and 20 runs respectively for Kigali Angels CC but Cathia Uwamahoro struck 34 runs off 35 balls while Vumilia Margaret added 11 runs to inspire victory for Charity.
