The Imbuto Foundation has rewarded 217 best performing school girls in an ongoing campaign to inspire young girls toward academic excellence.

The activities, which took place on Saturday and Sunday, saw students from five districts at both primary and secondary levels recognised for outstanding performance in national examinations.

"The beneficiaries hailed from Ruhango, Huye, Gakenke, Rubavu, and Nyagatare districts and the rewarding was based on results of recent national exams,” reads a statement from Imbuto Foundation, which is under the Office of First Lady, Jeannette Kagame.

Imbuto Foundation initiated the Promotion of Girls’ Education Campaign in 2005. Since then, more than 3,800 girls have been recognised for exceptional performance.

The Foundation recognises over 400 girls countrywide at each annual campaign.

The awards include scholastic materials, gadgets like laptops, information and telcommunication technology training and financial gifts.

This year’s drive started on March 8 (International Women’s Day) and continues until the end of the month.
