Bamako Encounters, an international platform dedicated to promote African videography and photography is the brain behind the exhibition. The 10th edition is organised by the Ministry of Culture of Mali and it is scheduled to take place at the National Museum of Mali from October 31 to December 31 2015.
Submissions in Rwanda can be delivered at The Office, Kiyovu. Last week a workshop was organised by The Fulbright programme, a flagship international educational exchange programme sponsored by the U.S, in partnership with the French Institute of Rwanda in line with the exhibition.
The workshop was a follow up on a visit by Silva Bisi, the artistic director of Bamako Encounters, who visited Rwanda last December to encourage Rwandan artists to take part in the exhibition.
Tali Lieber, a research fellow at Fullbright, who assisted Silva during her visit, told The New Times, that: "Bisi wants to bring the region’s photography out of oblivion by connecting it to outside artistic networks, to help artists enhance their projects, and increase their chances to participate in the exhibition.”
The workshop attracted experts in both videography and photography to help artists write their memoirs, a statement about their projects and to help them edit their works to match this year’s theme-Telling Time.
Tali says: "Artists whose works will be selected for the 10th edition will have the opportunity to attend the opening week to meet with other artists from across Africa to discuss the latest in photography and network with colleagues on the continent and in the Diaspora.”
The workshop was based on last year’s Slideluck event, where 34 artists showcased their works.
Submitted artworks and proposals will draw on a range of lens-based media including photography, video, film, and animation. The submitted works will be exhibited at The Office in May. Deadline for the submission is March 30.
