Gasore wins Eastern Circuit cycling race

Benediction Club rider Gasore Hategeka won the one-day ‘Eastern Circuit Race’ after clocking 4h11’53’’ - the 151km-race started in Kigali and ended in Nyagatare.

Benediction Club rider Gasore Hategeka won the one-day ‘Eastern Circuit Race’ after clocking 4h11’53’’—the 151km-race started in Kigali and ended in Nyagatare.

Gasore, 28, who also rides for Team Rwanda and will be part of the team that will compete at next week’s Tour de Cameroon, received Rwf150, 000 for his effort.

In second position was 19-year old Joseph Halleluiah, who rides for Les Amis Sportifs Rwamagana, who clocked 4h11’53’’ and received Rwf100,000 in addition to Rwf75,000 for being the best young rider in the competition.

Another Benediction Club rider, Samuel Mugisha, 17-years old, took third place with a time of 4h 11’58’’ and also walked away with Rwf75, 000 plus Rwf50, 000 for being the second youngest rider.

Twenty-five- year-old Theoneste Karasira finished on fourth position in a time of 4h14’52’’while 19-year old Omar Nizeyimana came on fifth place in 4h14’52’’ and they got Rwf50, 000 and Rwf25, 000 respectively.

The national cycling federation said the aim of the race was to increase the number of races on the national calendar in a bid to give riders more competition options. The next race is scheduled for April 4.
