Women Police officers have committed to step up their law enforcement initiatives in a bid to curb crimes especially those related to gender. This was among the 10 resolutions adopted at the end of the 6th ‘Police Women Convention’ held on Tuesday in Kigali.

This was among the 10 resolutions adopted at the end of the 6th ‘Police Women Convention’ held on Tuesday in Kigali.
700 women officers attended the convention.
"The resolutions are a guide to addressing crimes in society, " Supt. Goretti Mwenzangu, the Director of Gender Promotion at Rwanda National Police, said.
Most of the resolutions are dedicated to reigniting efforts against gender based violence and sexual harassment in particular.
"Rwanda has seen tremendous progress in their empowerment; however, some people in society still derail this progress by committing gender-related crimes. As officers, we will do our best to promote RNP’s vision of gender equality, peace and safety,” Supt. Mwenzangu said.
The annual convention brings together female Police officers to deliberate on how to solve issues affecting them in their responsibilities.
The force which started with a handful of female police officers, now has 20 percent women composition. The target is to have 35 per cent by end of 2017. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
