Kamonyi were unexpectedly held to a goalless draw by Les Lionnes in a women football league encounter on match-day 6 on Tuesday at Remera-Rukoma ground.

Last year’s league first runners-up Kamonyi who won 2-0 over Rambura on Sunday, needed to win on Tuesday in a bid to exert pressure on league leaders and reigning champions AS Kigali, but Les Lionnes upset their ambition, according to Kamonyi coach Emmanuel Habiyambere.

However, he also disclosed that the league race is far from over and if they recover quickly, they can challenge AS Kigali for the title. "We are disappointed with the draw but it’s too early to say we are out of the race,” he noted.

Grace Nyinawumuntu’s AS Kigali who were supposed to play Girls Academy on Tuesday, collected free points after the later failed to turn up for the tie.

Elsewhere, league new entrants of Nyagatare notched their second consecutive win beating Freedom 2-0 two days after winning 2-1 over Bugesera. Inyemera who lost 3-0 to AS Kigali on Sunday bounced to rout Rambura 3-0.

Reigning champions AS Kigali lead the table with maximum 18 points from six matches, Kamonyi are second, seven points off the pace while Inyemera come third with ten points.
