After winning 2-0 against Rambura in the women’s league on Sunday, Kamonyi are back in action this afternoon against Les Lionnes at Remera-Rukoma ground looking to win and keep pressure on leaders AS Kigali.

Second-placed Kamonyi scored the goals through midfielders Alice Niyoyita and Médiatrice Abayo to remain four points behind the reigning champions, AS Kigali, who defeated Inyemera 3-0 for a fifth, win in a row.

AS Kigali, which is seeking a record-extending sixth league title got their goals from Anne Marie Ibangarye, who netted a brace and Judith Ibangarye.

Kamonyi finished second last season, but their coach Emmanuel Habiyambere believes they can mount a serious challenge to wrestle the title from AS Kigali this time round.

"We have lost one and drawn one match in our first five league matches, which is not what we anticipated but I am confident we can still push AS Kigali all the way. We need to pull our socks and keep the pressure on them,” Habiyambere said on Monday.
