The Campus Inspector: The miser

We will never be equal, some people will always be richer than others and we can’t change that but the rich shouldn’t rub it in poor people’s faces. Unlike many universities, College of Science and Technology (COSTECH) doesn’t have huge halls for accommodation.

We will never be equal, some people will always be richer than others and we can’t change that but the rich shouldn’t rub it in poor people’s faces. Unlike many universities, College of Science and Technology (COSTECH) doesn’t have huge halls for accommodation. They are pretty small and can accommodate only the ones with meager means. However, there’s always one rich kid who doesn’t want to spend money in a rented house and gets a room in the halls.

Under normal circumstances, this is supposed to be a good thing. When someone rich comes into your room or a room next to yours, they usually have a TV and some other cool things, not forgetting the food that they buy. But that seems not to be the story with this one rich fellow in the room next to mine.

He is so rich, but awesomely stingy. A typical "campuser” doesn’t have breakfast like milk with chapatti rolls and mandazi. A cup of black tea is enough to take you through the long boring lecture ahead. The rich kid, however, goes to the shop, buys breakfast goodies and from the size of the paper bag, you might think he is bringing food for the whole hall.

This guy then sits down and takes breakfast while you watch- until the last piece of chapatti is in his belly.

You will look at him with "begging” eyes but nothing moves him. The aroma fills the room but you have nothing to do about it. His miserliness is well known and after that heavy breakfast, he starts greeting everyone.

Once, he left my hand smelling of chapatti and that is when I bumped into the one guy whose debts I have in plenty. It was not easy explaining how I am gaining weight because of chapattis yet I haven’t paid my debts.
