One person died on the spot while three others suffered severe injuries in an accident on Musanze-Kigali highway today morning.

According to Police, the accident that occurred at Kanyinya Sector, Nyarugenge District, involved a Toyota Prado, registration number RAA 643E. The vehicle had five occupants including two females and three males.

The deceased was identified as Jean-Claude Nzarora, 31, the driver. The identity of the injured could not be identified by press time but police said they were rushed to the Central University Teaching Hospital (CHUK).The body of the deceased was taken to Kacyiru Police Hospital.

Traffic Police Spokesperson, Chief Inspector of Police Emmanuel Kabanda, could not reveal the cause of the accident, saying that investigations were still ongoing.However, according to one of the survivors The New Times talked to, the cause of the accident was a brake failure."We were traveling from Musanze to Kigali. When we reached Kanyinya, the car suffered a brake failure. The driver was going to crash into one side of the road but he then veered off to the other side. That was when the car overturned. He (the driver) died on the spot”.
