Look for experience, not degrees

Editor,

Reference is made to Victor Visathan’s article, "Of bachelor’s degrees, and project management jobs” (The New Times, February 16).

The main question—to the NGO—is why do they think that simply requiring a bachelor’s degree will produce a good pool of candidates for a project management position. Such positions require project management skills and/or experience (ideally both but one or the other at a minimum).

It’s no wonder the NGO was flooded with sub-standard applications. People with the requisite skills are out there. The NGO needs to be smart about going after them and stop misleading others into thinking they have a shot at the position when they absolutely don’t.

They are wasting the applicants’ time and their own.
