Editor,

Refer to the article, "Education for Africa’s children more important than ever” (The New Times, February 9).

This is a noble cause and we should all join hands in the implementation of the programme. Education should be treated by all as the foundation for prospects for a bright future.

Some people view education as being not only expensive but also time wasting, yet ignorance and other short-cuts are more expensive and time-consuming.

Take, for instance, the era when Africa was being referred to as a ‘Dark Continent’, simply as a result of lack of ‘3Rs’ and compare to today’s world of modernity, when formal education has an upper hand in all dimensions. Why then can’t our children go to school so that Africa can eventually see absolute erosion of such stereotypes?
