Rayon Sports midfielder Leo Uwambajimana yesterday scored the only goal as the Blues defeated Cameroonian side Panthère Sportive du Nde 1-0 in the Orange Caf Confederations Cup in Douala, Cameroon.

Uwambajimana scored the goal in the seventh minute of the first half after a well taken free kick from defender James Tubane.

The Blues could have got a better score line but captain Fuadi Ndayisenga missed a penalty in the first half after Panthère Sportive du Nde goalkeeper Alain Tchoumte Tekeu brought down striker Peter Otema.

Rayon Sports were the better side in the first 30 minutes but the hosts got back in the game and could have scored through their strikers Rostand Tchebemou Nguea, Joseph Kameni Kajo but Rayon Sports goal keeper Eric Ndayishimiye was in excellent form.

Striker Peter Otema and Isaac Muganza missed several chances in the second half but the blues held on for an away victory that puts them in the driving seat when the two sides meet in the return leg in two weeks time.

Times Sport could not reach Rayon Sports Interim Coach Sosthene Habimana by press time but the Blues Chairman Theogene Ntampaka thanked his players and coaches for master minding the win.

"The players and coaches deserve credit for this win. We should now finish the job in Kigali in two weeks time,” Ntampaka said from Cameroon.

Former Rayon Sports coach Didier Gomes who is currently the Head Coach of Cameroonian side Coton Sport is believed to have given useful tips to his former team on how to beat their opponents.

The winner after both legs will meet Egypt giants Zamalek for next round.
